Laptop Computer Classrooms

As the modern workplace becomes increasingly reliant on computers, it is imperative that schools equip students with the faculties necessary to function, compete and achieve in a technologically driven world.

With this goal in mind, the ORT Ya'arat Ha'Emek Junior High School in Israel plans to build a computer classroom and equip 37 students in the 7th and 8th grades with laptop computers, to enable them to become computer literate and incorporate computer technology into all aspects of their schoolwork, including class work, homework and research. ORT believes that this project will stimulate student interest and motivation, teach students how to study and learn independently, and ultimately lead to improved overall academic achievement.

Contributions to this project will enable ORT to:

• Provide teacher training on the technical and pedagogical aspects of using computers in the classroom;

• Purchase laptop computers and software for students and teachers involved in the project;

• Connect the school to the internet, allowing students and teachers to communicate via e-mail and conduct research over the World Wide Web; and

• Hire technicians to install and maintain the computers and network.
