Scientific Israeli

Long a reading staple of high school science students, the 157-year-old Scientific American, which has been translated into 20 languages, is now available in a 21st - Hebrew. ORT Israel acquired the rights to produce and publish this latest edition, called "The World of Science and Technology" in Hebrew. Released last October, the premiere issue of this bimonthly had the ORT logo prominently displayed on its cover.

The U.S. edition is known for presenting recent scientific and technological developments in contemporary, highly readable language and for employing colorful and engaging graphics. In the first two issues of its Israeli offspring, offerings have included articles on genetics and cloning, nuclear energy and psychology, computers, the environment and biotechnology, as well as a survey of scientific and technological developments in Israel. While some of the articles were translated from the American edition, other pieces were written by Israeli researchers and scientists.

"Our goal is to encourage young people to read the magazine," said Dr. Eli Eisenberg, ORT Israel Deputy Director of Research and Development and Training, and a senior editor of the publication. To help ensure that high school students have the opportunity to stay abreast of innovations and trends, the first six issues will be distributed at a significantly reduced cost.
