Annual Meeting 2003: Inspiring and Informative

What would one call a religious leader who can inspire an audience in few words, a moving Tikkun Olam Award winner who embraces the ideas of commitment to the Jewish community, an informative progress report by a National President, and remarkable students balanced by a delicious lunch? Women's American ORT calls it our Annual Meeting, which took place on July 27 at Chicago's Westin O'Hare.

Lecturer and author Rabbi Karyn Kedar, Senior Rabbi at B'nai Jehoshua Beth Elohim in Glenview, Ill., served as keynote speaker at the Annual Meeting Luncheon. Ordained in 1985, Rabbi Kedar has the distinction of being the first woman rabbi to serve in Jerusalem. Gail Greenspahn received the organization's Tikkun Olam Award, presented annually to an individual or individuals who has shown commitment to strengthening the Jewish community. A true visionary and leader, Greenspahn has dedicated over a quarter of a century in service to the Jewish community, visiting Israel more than a dozen times in solidarity and leadership. She is a longtime Women's American ORT supporter and is deeply involved in the Jewish United Fund of Metropolitan Chicago.

Chaired by Board Member Judy Levin, the meeting was also used as the forum for Vice President Patti Aaron to officially launch the new projects in Israel, Russia and the United States we are supporting this year. The luncheon featured a programmatic and organizational update delivered by National President Carol Linch, uplifting presentations by three ORT Israel high school students and a graduate of Chicago's Zarem/Golde ORT Technical Institute, followed by motivational words by First Vice President Judy Menikoff.

Viva ORT in Las Vegas!
Fun, Food, Fashion

A wonderful time was had by all who attended the Desert Suburban Chapter's 3rd Annual ORT Spa-tacular at the Canyon Ranch Spa at the Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas. A delicious brunch was followed by a "spa-tacular" fashion show with stunning designs by Privilege shown off by Desert Suburban models. Event Chair and Co-chairs were Stephanie Dias, Susie Goldstein and Adrienne Miller, respectively. Attendees also gained some valuable information from an exercise physiologist, nutritionist, physical therapist and salon aesthetician (the chapter's Stephanie Dias). The event included a silent auction and raffle.
